Time for the Gavigan family!

snapshot_ba153bfb_20290343Standing, left to right: Isaiah, Mary, Josiah, Hadassah, Nathan

Seated, left to right: Ezechias, Judith

Foreground photobombing dogs: Baxter and Tina

snapshot_ba153bfb_c028b704Speaking of dogs, apparently I suck at keeping track. I meant for another family to gift the Gavigans one female dog. Instead they ended up with both Dinah and Tina.

snapshot_ba153bfb_8028feb9Nathan paid the family’s taxes of $7100, as well as the first mandatory $400 payment on their loan from last season. They’ll now have to pay at least $400 per day until it’s paid off, which shouldn’t be a problem. I anticipate them paying the whole thing off, once they get Ezechias’ college fund established.

“Dinah, you’re a really sweet dog, but this house only has so much room.”

So Dinah was put up for adoption.

Why Dinah? Well, Baxter’s ugly, and Tina’s ugly, so I figured I’d go ahead and have the Gavigans start a dog uglacy.

“Some of our friends’ families have video games. Maybe someday we can get a video game.”

“Maybe if you get a job when you’re a teen, you can buy a video game,” Mary said.

Saturday is generally reserved for friends, so Josiah invited Faina over for an outing.

Isaiah was busy skilling. He earned his 8th creativity point for his 2nd skill scholarship, and was hoping for a 3rd scholarship before heading to college at the end of the season.

And the portraits are done! I don’t know why they turn out dark sometimes.

Hadassah looks sad, like she’s thinking, “Why won’t my brothers play with me?”

Well, Hadassah, maybe it’s because you’re a little Meanie McMeaniePants. (Or it could be because Isaiah wanted to Talk About Hobby, and Judith has a point of interest in Arts & Crafts.)

Promotion for Nathan, hooray!

Judith tried to go to bed at 4 in the afternoon, but was forced to go down and greet Lana Pederson instead.

Faina brought Carme as her friend, and Mary kept rolling up wants to interact with her, culminating in a friendship.

Nathan spent the evening skilling for his next promotion. He figured if he worked hard, maybe he could get his LTW this season.

“Cheeby tamba luna…”

Once again, a youngest child was taught the last toddler skill.

(They’re actually not on birth control, as their roll was for 6 kids, but Nathan and Mary don’t seem to have any interest in trying for another one and I’m not going to force the issue.)

Father son bonding with thinking caps!

Carme came by with a contribution to Ezechias’ college fund. Her gift put them over the top! Now they can focus on paying back their loan.

After getting his skill points and energizing, Nathan was ready to take on that promotion!

Hadassah got pretty into her jump roping with fancy tricks and everything.

No one in the house has any cooking points to speak of, so the family had cereal for breakfast.

“You think it’s fun to spy on a hugely pregnant woman, huh?”

“Well, yeah, I guess I do. I mean, I did enjoy it.”

Josiah was, oddly, very upset by the altercation. I say “oddly” because he only has 3 nice points, and  I thought that was a nice sim thing.

Nathan was a bit sad to leave when everyone else planned to enjoy a nice relaxing Sunday, but he was level 8 and hoping for level 9.

It was a little weird for me not to be inviting anybody over, as I’ve gotten so used to family Sunday. But the Gavigans had a nice day of skilling at home.

Hadassah really enjoyed her time with the punching bag.

Once they finished skilling, the kids got to hang out and have fun.

Nathan got promoted to level 9! He hurried off to skill, since he worked the next day and then had a 3 day break.

“Judith, look! Ezechias and I are best friends! Ezechias is my special friend now, and you can’t be friends with him.”

“Can’t we all be friends, Hadassah?”

“And so I’m in charge of making special friends, and so you’re going to be my special friend, too, Felix! But you’re not allowed to make friends with Judith.”

“But I want to be friends with everybody!”

Skilling, skilling, always skilling.

Baloney sandwiches, yum.

Aw, Ginny Thayer is an itty bitty newspaper thief!

“Is that our invisible newspaper in your hand?”

“Um, no. Definitely not. Hey, birthday!”

Ezechias still looks like a Gavigan!

Since Josiah lost his date buddy when Feofil went to college, he stayed platinum through the buying of bubble blowers and musical instruments (which were then immediately sold back through inventory). So he got to dance!

A third bed was squished into the boys’ room. Because why would you need more than 3 small bedrooms for a family of 7?

More skilling! Because otherwise they would go to bed at 7 pm.

Josiah was put to work doing the landscaping.

Unfortunately, the first attempt at ugly puppies failed.

With the money from Nathan’s promotion, Mary was able to pay off most of the loan, getting it down to under $2000.

Josiah invited Pavel over for a booty call. Pavel seems to be the go-to guy for the other teen guys in the neighborhood. But before they could get to the “booty” part of the visit, Pavel decided it was too late and headed home.

Nathan maxed his charisma, and is now all skilled up for his Athletic LTW!

He was finally able to indulge in his OTH of Nature and get a garden going.

“I think I saw a rat, Mom!”

“No you didn’t, Judith. Less talking, more gulping.”

Mary was pretty high up in the Business career, so she got a limo.

Everyone else headed out as well, Nathan really hoping for a promotion.

It’s always nice when the youngest becomes a child, and nobody has to miss work for childcare.

No friends for Isaiah and Josiah, so they had to talk to each other about their hobbies. Fortunately, they both had the want for it.

Isaiah had just enough time to get into platinum before leaving for his Crappy Teen Job. Josiah was lucky enough to have the day off.

Alas, Nathan didn’t get promoted. With 3 days off ahead, that means he won’t be permaplat this season.

Judith was the only one to bring a friend – Sharla Ottomas again. The game seems to like her.

Mary, the one who didn’t really need a promotion, got one. But hey, money is good.

Nathan headed down to Train & Tone. The store stayed Rank 4, but Nathan did manage to earn his gold sales badge, and about $10,000. Since they also got $10,000 from salaries and Mary’s promotion bonus, they’re in pretty good shape.

Back home, Ezechias spotted Eldred Louie walking by, and hurried out to make friends with him.

Birthday time!

Hadassah became a Fortune/Knowledge sim with a LTW to top the Architecture career.

Judith became a Popularity/Grilled Cheese sim, with a LTW to be a top Artist.

Hadassah got new clothes, and continued to refuse to be girly.

Judith kept her clothes for now, but did get a new hairstyle and some makeup.

Since her parents were busy on a date, Hadassah took care of paying off the last of the loan before midnight. The Gavigans are now loan free, and paid a total of $300 in interest on their $8,000 loan. Not a bad deal.

Early in the morning, the girls got up to chat in their room. And the matching white PJs thing just will not work at all. No.

Nathan got a silver badge!

Hmm. I am not a fan of the unitard, but Isaiah leaves for college tomorrow, so no point in changing it.

Judith changed to a cute pink nightie before making her first ever platter of grilled cheese.

Grilled cheeeeese. GRILLED CHEESE!

Nathan decided to expand the garden, since he could grow new plants now and had all those days off.

“Ezechias, next time do your homework the night before. You’re not going to have time to finish it before school.”

The Gavigans are established enough now that the kids can be in private school! The kids were excited, since it was lonely being in public school all by themselves.

The try for puppies was finally successful! Maybe having a random walkby running to watch increases the success rate.

“Um, Hadassah, could you please stop noogieing my school bus friend? We’re trying to have an outing.”

Hadassah headed off to her first day at her Crappy Teen Job. She’s in Athletic or something. Whatever.

“And I used extra sharp aged cheddar, and it was awesome!”

Given that Judith and Anthony are both Popularity/Cheese sims, it seems inevitable that they would have chemistry. Unfortunately, they’re too far apart in age for anything long term – Anthony’s going to college next season, and Judith won’t go until winter.

“Yeah, my dad’s been making a lot of money lately, so we got into private school.”

Ezechias is the only kid Zosia’s encountered that she hasn’t immediately been mean to. I think it’s a good sign.

Judith is definitely loving being a popularity sim. Any teens that come home on the bus with her siblings, or walk by the house, are fair game for befriending.

“Hey, everybody! I’m home from my Crappy Teen Job!”

“Isaiah, do you really have to do that? I got a promotion, but you don’t see me crowing about it.”

“You’re going to sit here until you’ve got all your homework done, yesterday’s and today’s, understand?”

“Yes, Daddy.”

It was Mary’s turn to spend all her time skilling for her next promotion.

“Die, punching bag, die!”

Judith was very excited to become fit.

It meant she could join the cheerleading squad at school as a Llamaette.

(I don’t know why, but I see Judith as the pretty, popular cheerleader type.)

Reno Day time! The family made quite a bit of money this season, but decided to be cautious with their money after several seasons of just scraping by. So they got a modest new car…

And a nice TV as their big treat (aside from the private school).

Teens who go on outings stay up very late.

Everybody’s getting fit!

“Grilled cheese: a healthy part of a balanced breakfast. Well, actually it’s the only part of a balanced breakfast. The only part of a balanced diet, really.”

(Judith’s original LTW was to eat 200 grilled cheese sandwiches. I said no way and changed it, as I usually do when I get numbered wants related to a sim’s secondary aspiration.)

Nathan and Mary both had the day off, so they enjoyed some alone time as soon as the kids were off to school.

Nathan headed down to the gym, where he judiciously charged some sims $500 an hour. The gym only just became profitable at the last session, which means Nathan’s still got to earn back the more than $30,000 he spent to buy the building in the first place.

The business got up to level 5 and earned about $10k again. And Nathan got a networking perk guaranteeing a promotion the next time he goes into work!

Isaiah brought home Angie Pederson and had a nice outing with her, despite the occasional heart-barfing.

Josiah and Hadassah spent most of the afternoon away at their Crappy Teen Jobs.

Ezechias brought Lyosha home from school.

Nathan paid the school fees on the brand new expensive computer, and was then able to establish a savings account. It was nice to finally be earning good money.

Hadassah got promoted to the top of her Crappy Teen Job, Ezechias met Ginny Thayer, and Judith bogarted her brother’s school bus friend.

“Bye, Isaiah! Have fun at college!”

Isaiah was a little sad to be leaving his family to head off into the unknown world of university.

Most of the family came out to see him off, except Judith who was still busy with his school bus friend.

Isaiah managed to accumulate a college fund of $13,400 and $4000 in scholarships (grades, job, and 3 skills) – peanuts for some, but not bad for him considering he started out as a child and his family had nothing.

“Don’t be imprisoned by weird food. Experience the freedom that is grilled cheese!”

“Judith, I don’t care if you have grilled cheese instead of what I make for dinner, but let the rest of us enjoy our spaghetti in peace.”

Ezechias decided he’d best get his punch on, so he could be fit like his older siblings.

“Really, Daddy, grilled cheese is the best! You should make it the next time you cook. Or just ask me to make it – I’m getting pretty good.”

“Well, if you’re volunteering to be in charge of making the family meals, I think we can come to an agreement.”

Tonight Josiah was the teen that was up late after everyone else had gone to bed.

He’s got the same disadvantage as Isaiah, of starting out as a child with no smart milk, but I’m hoping to manage 5 skill scholarships for him when he goes to college, since he’s very easy to keep happy with Buy Something Expensive (and then sell through inventory).

That’s it for the Gavigans! Next is another Uni chapter.

Family: Gavigan

Business: Train & Tone, Rank 5

General fund contribution: $12,100 (taxes $7,100, school fees $5,000)

Playable sims: 121

Sim multiplier: 56

Population: 6776

Time for the Gavigan family!

Back: Mary and Nathan

Front: Isaiah and Josiah

First thing, Nathan paid the taxes. They only had about $400 left afterward, with nothing saved toward college funds or a new house, so Nathan doubted they’d be able to pay the extra levy. He felt rather bad about it, since he hoped his children would benefit from the town’s new university, but they just didn’t have the money.

Mary got in a little stargazing before it got light outside. She hoped she could get a logic point before work; a promotion bonus would help out a lot. The new baby was coming soon, and they would need a crib and a changing table.

Nathan got Baxter a job in Pet Service – every little bit helped. He didn’t have work until late in the afternoon, so he spent much of the morning teaching Baxter to Shake for a promotion.

Isaiah was glad to help his mom out with her logic point for work – he loved games. As soon as she got her point, she headed off to work.

Josiah spent much of the morning chatting on the phone with Saveliy Pavlov, who was his very best friend besides his big brother. Meanwhile, Isaiah took over teaching Baxter to shake.

Josiah then discovered that he really enjoyed spying on the neighbors’ backyards through the telescope. Since it was late fall, though, there didn’t seem to be any actual sims out to spy on.

“Hi, Mommy! Did you get a promotion today?”

“Yes, Josiah, I did.”

Sharlene Cooke and Chloe Gonzaga were walking by, so the boys invited them to stop and play.

Nathan had gone to work as soon as Mary got home, and the boys were busy with their friends, so Mary figured she’d take a nap.

Baxter headed off for his first day of work.

“And when I grow up, I’m gonna build a robot suit and take over the world!”

Josiah really liked to talk on the phone.

“Nobody to play chess with me. That’s ok, I can just play by myself!”

Nathan got a promotion! He was thrilled to get out of the llama suit.

The easels were occupied, so Mary decided to write a novel to earn her creativity point.

“Um, Mary, where did you get that sparkly salmon?”

“It was in the fridge.”

“None of us has the cooking points to make something like that. It must have been here when we moved in.’

“Argh! Horrible, horrible indigestion!”

“Yikes! I knew that salmon must be bad.”

It turned out that Mary’s pain was labor rather than indigestion, and soon she gave birth to baby girl Hadassah.

Quickly followed by her twin sister, Judith.

The family had made enough money from promotions during the day to furnish not only the nursery, but the second bathroom as well.

“Yeah! Two baby girls! Now we’ve got two of each – how perfect is that?”

Mary had a fleeting desire to have 10 children, but that soon passed. 4 was an excellent number.

Thanks, Sandy!

Baxter came home with a promotion, capping off an excellent first day of the rotation for the Gavigan family.

“Well, I got your diaper changed, Judith, but your mommy will have to get your bottle. I’ve got to go to work.”

“Last night while the moon was out, the social worker brought our new baby sisters!”

“It wasn’t the social worker. They came out of mom’s tummy.”

“Swim for it! Swim, swim! Glug glug glug.”

“Yeah, we have a dog. I hope I can talk my parents into getting a girl dog, too, and then they can have puppies!”

Mary had the day off work, so while the twins were napping, she made some flower arrangements.

“Pew pew! I got you!”

“Oh! Urgh! Argh! I’m dyin’, man!”

Hadassah glitched with her first diaper change, putting her and Judith on different schedules. Mary didn’t mind at all during the day, but thought she might feel differently after bedtime.

Mary was very glad that Isaiah and Josiah got along so well. They’d definitely made the right decision when they’d adopted Josiah.

Nathan got home with a promotion! And no more llama suit!

Mary had gone to take a nap, so Nathan figured he was on diaper duty until she woke up.

For some reason, the Gavigans seem to attract pint sized newspaper thieves.

That evening, it was time for Isaiah’s birthday! Sophie Miguel stopped in to watch.

“Yeah, Isaiah’s big!”

“I’m a teen! Oh…these pants…”

Isaiah became a Family/Fortune sim, just like his mother. For some reason, the Family/Fortune combo seems popular in Willow Valley, even though aspirations are almost universally chosen by a die. Isaiah apparently tends more toward the Fortune side, since his LTW is to earn $100,000.

Mary’s aspiration was low, and she wanted Isaiah to get a college scholarship. So he became the first teen in Willow Valley to officially receive a scholarship. He only qualified for the grades scholarship, since he didn’t have many skills.

After buying some new pants, Isaiah gave his stinky dog a bath.

First thing in the morning, Nathan got the body point he needed for work. He was determined to keep the promotions coming.

Everyone else was still asleep, so he got Judith her bottle.

A little while later, the family sat down for a delicious breakfast of tomato Pop Tarts.

“We have to study geography in school today. I hate geography.”

“Don’t forget to call the nanny, Nathan.”

“I’m calling right now, sweetie! Have a good day at work!”

Mary had vacation days, but decided to save them for now. If she went to work, she could get a promotion, and they definitely needed the money – so far they’d only managed $5000 in the college fund for Isaiah, and they needed $10,000 per child.

Isaiah and Josiah became best friends while finishing their Pop Tarts.

Calista came for the day, and took good care of the babies while everyone was at work and school.

“I can take it from here, Ms. Nanny.”

“Are you sure, young man?”

“I’m a family sim.”

“Oh, well, all right, then.”

When Isaiah was a child, he made quite a few friends. Now, he wondered if he might have a future with one of them.

“Hey, it’s Isaiah. Can you come over? … Great! See you soon!”

Unfortunately, Isaiah’s quest for romance was interrupted when Judith wet her diaper. He had promised his parents he would take good care of the twins during the two hours before they got home, so he had to see to her first.

Nathan, Mary, and Baxter arrived home, all with promotions!

Nathan headed down to Train & Tone, the family’s gym. With the money from the recent promotions, he was able to finish furnishing the place. The ticket price was a respectable $30 per hour.

Nathan spent much of his time there working on skills for his next promotion.

He also got a chance to get to know Armando Cooke, who was at the top of the Athletic career. Nathan figured a little schmoozing couldn’t hurt.

Back home, Isaiah made his move on Mhairi.

Oh, no, rejected!

Nathan was excited about the prospect of more tomato Pop Tarts.

Finally, Isaiah got Mhairi to give him his first kiss. He’d been feeling pretty desperate.

That evening, it was birthday time! Nathan was really hungry, so Isaiah volunteered to bring Judith to her cake.

They’re both quite cute, though definitely not identical.

“My little sister is about the same age as yours.”

“Cool. Maybe we should get them together for a play date.”

Hadassah was tired and went straight to bed, but Mary got Judith her smart milk and a new hairstyle.

“Yeah, Science is definitely pretty cool. And if you hang out on the telescope enough, you can go up and meet my mom.”

“Say ‘Mommy’.”

“No, ‘Mommy’.”

Nathan got up super early with Hadassah to get her her smart milk.

The family had gotten an outing gift overnight, so in the morning, Isaiah was able to bring his college fund up to $10,000. He also got a teen job in the Military career, mostly for the scholarship money.

“I definitely don’t want to have to change diapers, so I’m going to help you with the potty, Hadassah.”

Isaiah then had time to get himself a charisma point for a promotion before school.

Naturally, Josiah got to know his sisters at the block table.

Nathan stayed home with the twins, while everyone else headed off to work or school. Sadly, neither Mary nor Baxter was expecting a promotion, as they didn’t have the needed skills.

But then Baxter got a good job on a chance card and got promoted to Rescue Pet!

“Who’s a good doggy, bringing home the bacon?”

“Bacon? Bacon? Where’s the bacon? I want some bacon!” *tail wag*

Isaiah brought Mireia home from school, but left her smustling on the sidewalk while he headed off for his first day of work.

“Guess what, Mom? I got an A plus!”

“That’s great, Josiah!”

“I know we have a ton of stuff to do – skilling, toddler training for the girls – but go on a date with me first?”

“Of course, sweetie.”

“I’m a teen overachiever, you know.”

“I can talk.”

“That’s awesome!”

Mhairi came over and immediately started smustling. She brought Venyamin who’s a little more polite, and rang the doorbell.

“Oh, boy, that was an awesome date.”

“We could have another one.”

“No, I’ve got to skill.”

“Isn’t that the girl Isaiah likes? I swear, these teenagers.”

Isaiah was also BFFs with Venyamin, so he decided not to have any hard feelings if Mhairi preferred him. But he wished he could find just one girl he liked who didn’t already have a boyfriend.

Mary spent the evening getting skilled up for her next promotion.

Ah, the joy of the toddler blankets. Everyone else was asleep, but the girls got up and got on their bunny heads.

As soon as Mary did get up, it was time to teach Judith her nursery rhyme. She still didn’t know how to walk, but she wanted the nursery rhyme.

Baxter got a collar, and also had a weird reaction to the soap in the bath and turned green.

Amazingly, it made him even uglier.

Breakfast, blocks, and learning to talk.

“Bye, Nanny Calista! Take good care of my little sisters!”

Poor Hadassah was just trying to get on her blanket, but Calista kept bringing her bottle after bottle.

Isaiah brought Marya Hamilton home from school. He wished the girls didn’t just think of him as a “good friend” kind of guy.

As Isaiah was finishing up his outing, everyone else returned home. Mary and Nathan both got promotions.

The brothers spent most of the afternoon and evening playing a game of chess. They were both pretty close to earning their logic scholarships.

Nathan finally earned the punching bag. Earning body points would be a lot easier from now on.

Nathan also wanted a new table. Since they needed a bigger table anyway, he got one.

While Mary taught Judith to walk, Nathan enjoyed some delicious mac & cheese at the new table.

Nathan taught Hadassah to talk, glad that this was the last of the toddler training.

Another baby! Mary was excited…but worried too. Where would they put a new baby? They certainly didn’t have the money to move to a bigger house.

They’d have to figure something out next season.

That’s it for the Gavigans! Next is a new CAS family, the Bousaids.

Family: Gavigan

Business: Train & Tone, Rank 3

Town Fund contribution: $4300 (taxes only)

Total Town Fund: $242,000

Playable sims: 83 (+2)

Sim multiplier: 38

Population: 3154

It’s time for the last household of Summer 3! The Gavigan family is newly removed from the sim bin.

Left to right: Nathan, Mary, Isaiah

Apparently my hack to prevent playables from actually buying stuff doesn’t apply to pets, as the Gavigans seem to have acquired a small ugly dog. His name is Baxter.

If this house looks familiar, that’s because it was the Pedersons’ house through last season. It’s the biggest starter home, so hopefully the Gavigans will be comfortable here for a couple of seasons while they acquire some funds.

Nathan’s a Fortune/Pleasure sim with a LTW to top the Athletic career. Unfortunately, there were no Athletic spots available, so he took a position in Military in the interim.

The Gavigans started out with plenty of money to furnish their house, but they’ll need quite a bit more to get their business off the ground – about $10,000 more just to purchase the building, which is all I pre-built for them.

(Unless someone in a family has a specialized interest, like a crafting badge or some such, I roll to choose their business from a list of business ideas. The Gavigans were unlucky and rolled a venue business that will be expensive to furnish.)

I gave Mary a makeover. She’s still weird looking, but it’s better now – that hairstyle did not do her face any favors.

Mary is a Family/Fortune sim with a LTW to reach her Golden Anniversary. Since she doesn’t have a career based LTW, she’ll be taking a job in Business eventually. There wasn’t any Business available the first day, either, so she took a temporary job in Adventure.

Isaiah headed to school and Mary to work, leaving Nathan alone. He figured he might as well try to make some money, so he started digging for treasure.

While spraying bugs, he realized how much he loved Nature. He was going to enjoy nurturing these tomatoes to harvest.

Mary came home with a chance card promotion – especially awesome since she didn’t have a needed skill point.

Mary worked on getting those skills up while Nathan made a new friend.

Baxter tried to sing along with the radio. He wasn’t a very good singer.

Hooray, making friends with other playables!

(The family started with about 8 friends, all playables. Ah, the joys of moving new households in at the beginning of the rotation and playing them at the end.)

Isaiah got home and got started on training Baxter.

I don’t know which of the adults bought the dog, but I’m declaring that he’s Isaiah’s dog.

“Hi, I’m Isaiah.”

“Oh. Um, I’m Nastasia.”

“You weren’t planning to steal our newspaper, were you?”

“Um, of course not, why would you think that?”

“Well, the steepling your fingers and cackling were kind of clues.”

“So, are you and your little girlfriend in love?”

“She’s not my girlfriend, Mom. Geez.”

Woot! Thanks, Larisa!

Mary found a job in Business and promptly gave up the Adventure position to take it.

Nathan headed to work in the early morning hours.

“The Maxian invasion of Simlandia was in 1604, not 1406, Isaiah. Next time don’t leave your homework for the last minute.”

Everyone headed off for the day.

Larisa came by again.

“Yeah, my dad’s on this health kick. He said after he works out he’s going to eat some eggs.”

Isaiah had learned his lesson, and got his homework done before bed.

Nathan was thrilled to harvest the tomatoes. They weren’t the huge, bright red, practically glowing fruits that he’d seen for sale at the grocery store here in town, but they were his, and he was sure they would be delicious.

Mary decided to do some digging while Nathan took care of the small garden. She was tired of the matter -of-fact questions from others in town: “So, what kind of business do you own?” Thus far, she’d been able to say that they’d just moved here and were still deciding, but they had to have a business up and running by the end of the season.

“Wow, Dad, these toaster pastries are really good!”

“That’s because they’re made from home grown ingredients, son.”

Personally, I would find tomato Pop Tarts kind of gross, but hey, I’m not a sim.

Morning came, and Mary and Isaiah headed off to work and school.

Nathan was left home with the dog. He earned himself a Mechanical point for work.

After a little more digging, he finally had enough! Nathan sat down and purchased his first business.

He would wait until they had about $5000 in cash to actually go there, though, since the place would need to be furnished.

Baxter enjoyed the fruits of the family’s digging, too.

Mary got a promotion!

Isaiah was a playful kid, and always came home needing a fun boost. Fortunately his dad was available to play the best game ever in the history of everything with him.

Mary headed straight inside to work on her charisma.

While Isaiah did his homework, Nathan and Mary found time for a date.

Everyone had work or school the next day.

Nathan continued to hope he’d find a job in Athletic, but in the meantime, Military was proving quite lucrative, with frequent promotions.

On his 4th day of school, Isaiah finally brought home a friend – Faina Thayer from across the street.

Mary made it a double promotion day.

Nathan was finally able to head out to his new business, a big, empty building.

With the money from that day’s promotions, he was able to buy a few pieces of exercise equipment. He named the business Train & Tone, and hoped to build it into Willow Valley’s premier fitness club.

The first customer to show up was Meadow Pederson.

“Hmm. I would like to become more fit.”

Then a wonderful thing happened: I saw the reviewer just as he walked onto the lot. If you’ve run a venue business, you know that the reviewer will instantly pay whatever the asking price is. So I totally cheated and had Nathan bump up the price to $9,999.

The reviewer really liked the treadmill, and stayed on it for a couple of hours. He didn’t give Train & Tone a good review, but he did give it something far better: $29,998.

The gym was very popular with the ladies, especially those ladies who prefer purple sweatsuits.

After 24 hours, the gym was in pretty good shape. Nathan still had some improvements he wanted to make, but customers were paying $30 an hour to visit his level 2 business. All in all, a great day’s work.

After all the improvements, though, Nathan had less than $50 in his pocket. So as soon as he got home, it was back to digging.

After Faina left, Isaiah spent the evening teaching Baxter to Come Here.

Mary was shocked to learn that she was expecting a baby! She’d wanted another child for a long time, but they’d just fallen into inertia after Isaiah was born. But now it was finally happening!

As she ate a leftover omelet, though, Mary worried about what this change would mean for Isaiah. He would be a teenager before this new baby was a toddler. Would he resent a baby after being an only child for so long? Or would he just be upset that he’d spent his whole childhood with no one to play with?

As Mary set her fork down, she made a decision about how to proceed. She hoped it was the right one.

Thanks, Meadow, you’re awesome.

Mary took her maternity day on Friday while Isaiah and Nathan headed off. She spent a little while arranging flowers on the new flower bench that she and Nathan had both wanted.

As 10 am approached, Mary tidied up the house and made sure everything was spotless.

Mary gave a big hug to her new son, Josiah.

“Social Worker says I’m going to live here forever. Is that true?”

“Yes, you’re part of our family now. But it’s Friday, so you’d better get to school.”

After seeing Josiah off to school, Mary headed off to work herself – no point taking an entire vacation day when she could still get a solid 4 hours of work in.

Nathan didn’t get a promotion, but he did bring home Goopy and had a pleasant outing.

Baxter doesn’t like the school bus. Josiah doesn’t much like Baxter.

Mary did get a promotion, and brought home Meadow!

Quick, Mary, have an outing with her. Maybe we can swindle another gift out of her.
